Collection: Spotlight on...
At the intersection of art, physics, chaos, and luck you'll find the amazing Forged in Fire kumihimo necklace.
Raku refers to a special pottery firing process in which the pendants are removed from a hot kiln and quickly placed in a metal container filled with shredded paper, sawdust, leaves, or any other flammable material. The combustible materials burst into flames and are allowed to burn briefly before a lid is placed over the container. As the oxygen burns up around the pendants, the glazes reduce and transform into a metallic state resulting in wonderful flashes of color. The smoke from the fire pushes into cracks and blackens unglazes sections of the pottery. You never know exactly how the fire, smoke, and glaze will interact and so it's a bit of a surprise every time.
The Forged in Fire necklace places one of these incredible raku pendants front and center. Just as your raku pendant features colors that shift and shimmer in the light, you'll braid an elegant beaded rope that smoothly shifts from one color to another.
